Question Answer
what is the meaning of microscope? An instrument used to make small things look bigger
What is the meaning of specimen? The objest being looked at through a microscope
What is an image? An image is what is seen through a microscope
What is a light microscope? A microscope that uses light to reveal the image
What are the two types of light microscopes? Monocular microscoprs and binocular microscopes
explain a stereo microscope A binocular microscope that creates a three-dimensional image
Explain objective lens The lens of the microscope closest to the stage
Why is a stereo microscope used to disect and examine living things? Because the space between the objective lens and specimen is greater than other microscopes and it shows things in three dimensions.
Compare the image of a stereo microscope and Monocular or binocular microscopes In monocular or binocular microscropes, when you move the specimen to one direction, the image appears to move the other direction. But the image of a stereo microscope the opposite happens.
Explain microfication The amount by which the image is magnified compared to the real object (specimen)
Give an example of magnification so if the microscope has a magnification on x10, then the image is ten time bigger that the actual object.
What is the feild of view? The amount of specimen seen through an object. As magnification increases, the field of view becomes smaller.
What is the maximum magnification achieved by light microscopes? It is about x1000. At this magnification some of the largest bacteria is just visible
What is the maximum magnification achieved by stereo microscopes? It is x100 and is lower than light microscopes
What is a micrometre equal to? a micrometre is one-thousandth of a millimetre one millionth of a metre.
What is a micrometre used for? It is used by scientists to measure microscopic objects.
Are electron microscopes more powerful or are or light microscopes? Electron microscopes are
What is an electron microscope? It is a type of microscope that uses beams or electrons to magnify up to a million times.
Name the two types of electron microscopes Transmission electrom microscopes and scanning electron microscopes.
What is the difference between TEM and SEM when it comes to the specimen? In TEM, the electrons pass through the specimen while in SEM the electrons reflect of the surface of the specimen.
