- 1SensorsA device designed to measure some physical quantity in its environment. An example might be a heat sensor that measures the temperature in a room.
- 2Light SensorMeasures light levels. They can be used in External security lights.
- 3ThermistorThermistors are used as temperature sensors, for example, in fire alarms. Their resistance decreases as the temperature increases.
- 4Sound SensorMeasures levels of sound. They can be used in security alarm systems.
- 5Motion SensorA device that detects moving objects, particularly people. Used in house alarms.
- 6Pressure SensorMeasures pressure, can be used in burglary alarm systems or automatic doors.
- 7MonitoringProcess of the computer watching and keeping check of something.
- 8Data LoggingCollecting or gathering data over a period of time. For example collecting a wide range of data like temperature in the environment.
- 9DigitalThis means having only discrete values, as opposed to analogue which has continuously changing values.
- 10Analogue to digital converterAn ADC converts the analogue data into digital data so that the computer can process and store the data.
- 11ActuatorThe 'actuator' is the name given to a device that moves something when commanded to do so. For example an electric motor is an actuator. Its output shaft is connected to the thing that needs to be controlled such as a window or automatic gate.
