BENCH-MARKING -continuous process of measuring products, services and practices against the toughest competitors or companies recognized as industry leaders -identify areas of improvement -key lies in analysis 1. start with own Mission Statement, a company should honestly analyse its current procedures and determine area of improvement 2. carefully select competitors worthy of bench-makring
SIX SIGMA -a highly ambitious quality standard that specifies a goal of no more than 3.4 defects per million parts -5 Step process (DMAIC)
DMAIC Define Measure Analyse Improve Control
REDUCED CYCLE TIME -simplification of work rules -dropping of barriers between work steps and among department -removing worthless steps in the process -improves overall company performance as well as quality
CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT A.K.A Kaizen -companies realized that extraordinary success comes from making a series of mostly small improvements -implementation of a large number of small, incremental improvements in all areas of the organisation on an on-going basis =Improving things a little at a time, all the time, has the highest probability of success
