| Rostral | Towards the muzzle is rostral |
| Proximal | With reference to the limbs: Towards the junction with the body |
| Distal | With reference to the limbs: Further from the body |
| Medial | With reference to the limbs: Orientated towards the midline of the body |
| Lateral | With reference to the limbs: Orientated away from the midline of the body |
| Axial | Towards the axis of the body |
