Question Answer
What is priming? Priming is a technique in which the introduction of one stimulus influences how people respond to a subsequent stimulus.
Types of Priming 1) Positive and negative Priming 2) Semantic Priming 3) Associative Priming 4)Repetition Priming 5) Perceptual Priming 6)Conceptual Priming 7) Marketing Priming
What is Semantic Priming? Semantic priming refers to the observation that a response to a target is faster when it is preceded by semantically related prime compared to an unrelated crime.
Why does Semantic Priming occour? Semantic priming may occur because the prime partially activates related words or concepts, facilitating their later processing or recognition.
Semantic Dementia Semantic Dementia refers to loss of semantic memory in verbal and non verbal domains. People can speak but their words convey less meaning.
Semantic Relatedness Related concepts are stored together
Lexical Decision Task Given by Meyer and Schvaneveldt It requires access to semantic memory It measures response times in related and unrelated condition
Models Of Semantic Memory 1)The Hierarchical Network Model of Semantic Memory 2)Spreading Activation Model
Hierarchical Network Model of Semantic Memory developed by? Collins & Quillian,1969
Hierarchical Network Model of Memory Semantic memory is made up of nodes (concepts/categories) with links to related nodes. It has a hierarchical structure (higher levels subsume lower levels).
Predictions of Model Hierarchical network model of Semantic Memory predicts that it should take longer to verify sentences that require traversing a greater number of links.
Spreading Activation Model developed by? Collin and Loftus,1975
Spreading Activation Model Concepts and nodes are linked together with different levels of conductivity. Activating a node causes the activation to spread along the links to other nodes. Higher conductivity, faster it spreads down the link The length of links can be modified by experience instead of logic.
Predictions of Model Reaction time would be lower for immediate trial compared to delayed trial
Mediated Priming Incorporates associates between new networks of Semantic Memory
Semantic Network It is a web of labelled relations among interconnected elements.
