Positive Sanction “Good Job” Sports Awards Nights, Graduation, Allowances.
Negative Sanction Getting bad grades, getting suspended.
Formal Sanction Laws, Being arrested, being given a metal of honor by military.
Informal Sanctions Parents, Teachers, breaking a school rule, Getting a job, getting fired from a job.
Group 1. Interaction 2. Two or more people 3. Shared expectations 4. Common interest
Achieved Status A status that you have to work for. Example: Student, Being a parent.
Master Status The one that you are using at that point in time. Example: Mother, Student, Teacher, Friend. A double master status example would be; A teacher having their child in their class that they teach.
Roles The expected behaviors in the status.
Role Sets Complete list of all roles of the status’.
Reciprocal Roles Expected behavior.
Role Expectations Expected behavior.
Role Performance How well the carry out.
Role Conflict When two role cross and you have to choose one over the other.
Role Strain When you have a hard time living up to the role expectations.
Population Ex. China's population law
