Where is the Sahel? The Sahel is a region located in the southern edge of the Sahara desert. The Sahel end in Gambia on the West coast and goes through many countries from west to east. The Sahel is in northern/middle of Africa.

What is the only positive effects of desertification in the Sahel and explain why? More people move to cities, people have better education and better jobs
What are the negative effects of desertification in the Sahel?(2 points and explain each one) Flash flood are more likely to happens because soil is dry so it cannot soak up water and so it floods Hard to reclaim land once it becomes desert without lots of money meaning that precious land is being lost which could be used to grow crops for an increasing world population Subsistence farmers don't have enough money to invest pesticides, artificial fertilisers or agriculture machinery. SO if there is a drought they will find it very hard to survive.
What are three ways of managing the Sahel so it does not become a desert? Limit number of trees that are cut Plant trees which stops soil erosion due to the roots Construction of low stone lines called bunds which coupled with strong grass help rainwater to infiltrate the soil and reduce rainwater lost by run off Collecting rainwater from the rags of buildings Building terraces on steeper slopes Building small rocks.
