what does the portrait mode on the selector button do? blurs the background and gives softer tones to the skin and hair. check that the AF point covering the face flashes in red.
Moving the AF point (autofocus) if you don't want to focus on the nearest thing. only works in creative modes (P, Tv, Av, M) push the + button top right of back. use arrows /main dial to move focus box till right one goes red.
how to focus automatically with the shoot button push half way down, wait then push fully
going back to center AF focus click Set - it toggles you between Center and the current AF position chosen with the + button at the top right.
where to focus on a portrait eyes, because then you can 'recompose' the rest
autofocus - how to turn it on / off there's a button on the lens itself - but I don't need it just yet

how do you recompose a shot? half push the shutter button to lock the focus. hold. recompose picture. can do e.g animal in cage, focus on object same distance as animal, lock focus, point at animal. avoids focus on cage.
how do you revert all settings to default? go to a creative zone mode go to the spanner tab clear settings, SET clear all settings, SET OK, SET sets to default settings p165
playback - how to switch btw seeing one pic and seeing 4 or 9? press the asterisk button once or twice, arrow to select, SET to choose a pic. use main dial to move to next screen
magnify during playback? top right button (zoom in)
what does Q (quick control) do during playback accesses these features: protect image rotate rating image jump (eg jump thru every 10 images)
