Network Topologies

David Hewson English 10 cards

Cards in this deck (10)

  1. 1What is the definition of Topology? The pattern in which all nodes on an network are connected together.
  2. 2What is a Mesh Topology?Where there is no central node.
  3. 3What is a Star Topology?Where there is a central node.
  4. 4Give an example of a Central Node.Modem, Hub, Switch, Router
  5. 5What is the definition of a Node?A device which is connected to a network.
  6. 6Give an example of a Node.TV, Laptop, Mobile Phone, Tablet, Games Console, Printer
  7. 7What are some advantages of a Star Topology?- New nodes can easily be added to the network
    - Fewer data collisions happen
    - Network management can be done centrally
  8. 8What are some disadvantages of a Star Topology?- If the central point fails it affects all the nodes
    - It can be expensive if you have wired networks
  9. 9What are some advantages of a Mesh Topology?- Communications can be received more quickly
    - Communications should always get through as there many possible routes
    - A node should not become isolated as there are no central nodes
  10. 10What are some of disadvantages of a Mesh Topology?- Many connections mean a lot more maintenance would be needed
    - Many connections are expensive to implement
