| John Brown | An abolitionist that believed the only way to settle slavery was to raid and kill the people allowing it. |
| Robert E. Lee | This man is best known for leading the Confederate army. He fought many great battles during the civil war but eventually had to surrender to the Union in 1865. |
| Andrew Johnson | This man was the 17th president and was granted presidency after Lincoln was assassinated. He was known as the Veto President. |
| Susan B. Anthony | She was a women that fought for woman suffrage and also fought to abolish slavery. She led many organizations and talked at many events. |
| Sitting Bull | A Native American man that fought to keep their traditions and land. He was killed at the wounded knee battle. The battle began when Americans tried to arrest this man and his people resisted. |
| George Custer | This man was the American commander of many wars against Native Americans. He and his people would raid villages, killing women, children and elders. |
| Cornelius Vanderbilt | One of the 4 men who built America. This man was extremely rich and made his money off of railroads and shipping. |
| John Rockefeller | This man was also one of the 4 men who built America. He got filthy rich off of oil. He was also the first great American business trust. |
| Andrew Carnegie | This man was one of the 4 men who built America. He made his money off of the steel industry. Found education to be of great importance and built many libraries. |

| Plymouth | English colonial in North America from 1620-1691 |
| Lexington and Concord | The first battle of the Revolutionary War occurred here in 1775. |
| Erie Canal | A body of water that ran through New York |

| Harper's Ferry | This was a historical town in West Virginia. John Brown led a raid here. |

| Indian Removal Acts | These were passed in order for Americans to gain more land by taking it from the Native Americans. They were forced to walk the cruel trail of tears. |
| California Gold Rush | This is what the major finding of gold in California was called. People would do anything to lay their hands on gold at the time. |
| Homestead Act | In 1862, this act was signed by Abraham Lincoln. It encourage people to move West by providing great amounts of land to settlers. |
| Industrial Revolution | This was the time period when technology advanced. People moved to urban areas and took jobs in factories. |
| Underground Railroad | This is a trail that runaway slaves would follow to get to the North. |
| Seneca Falls Convention | This convention was the first woman's advocate meetings. |
| Compromise of 1850 | In this act, the fugitive slave act was added to the constitution and slave trade was now illegal. |
| Kansas- Nebraska Act | This act created the territories for Kansas and Nebraska, allowing more settlers. |
| Dred Scott vs. Sanford | This was the case between an African American man and the woman who owned him before they moved to a free state. He was fighting for his freedom in court. |
| Fugitive Slave Act | This act was passed as part of the Compromise of 1850. It made it illegal for a slave to runaway from their master. If they did, they could be returned at any time. |
| Bleeding Kansas | This was a time of battles for Kansas. It fought with other territories over the matter of slavery. |
