What happens in the parable of talents? A man gives one servant 5 talents. He gives another 2 talents and the last servant 1 talent. The first servant puts his money to work and doubles it. The second also gains 2 more talents The last servant buried his one talent. The master came back and asked for the talents. He was happy with the first two servants and they shared in his happiness. He called the last servant "wicked and lazy" and told him that he will remain in the darkeness
How do Christians today relate to the parable? Christians believe that they will be judged according to how they used their talents

How can members of the Laity fulfill their duty to witness? (3 points) 1. By supporting worship such as being Eucharistic ministers or ministers of the word (readers) 2. Parents are called to work for a loving Christian home life 3. Lay people may stand in for the priest to confer Baptism and to distribute Holy Communion according to the Catechism

What does it mean for the Priest to be described as an apostle? He is sent out to serve others, concerning all people, not just those in him Parish
What are the 8 stages of the rite of ordination? Presentation The Examination Prostration Consecration Prayer Investment Anointing Mass PEP C PIAM
What happens in the presentation stage of the rite? Candidate is called forward and presented to the Bishop
What happens during the Examination part of the rite? The Bishop questions the candidate about his responsibilities. Will they be obedient to the Bishop? This shows the candidate is willing to accept the responsibilities of priesthood
What happens in the prostration stage of the rite of ordination? The candidate lies on the floor in prostration which shows he is submitting himself to God and will do all that God wants.
What happens in the consecration stage of the Rite of ordination? The Priest is ordained by the Bishop by the laying on of hands - representing the power of the Holy Spirit being passed on to the person.
What happens in the investment stage of the Rite of ordination? Priests are given a stole and chasuble. These are both items that a Priest wears when he celebrates the Eucharist.
What happens in the anointing stage of the Rite of ordination? The Priest is anointed with oil to bless the Priest and show they are set out for special work.

What is contemplative religious life? Live a life centred around prayer. They live separately from the world so that they may focus on prayer. They also undertake work in agriculture or making liturgical items for the Church and so on
What is apostolic religious life? Apostolic orders have a life of prayer. They are actively involved outside their monastery, convent or house.
What is celibacy? The obligation to abstain from sexual relationships
What are the arguments FOR celibacy? (Priests should not get married) Priests should remain Christ-like as he is acting on earth 'in persona Christi' and Jesus never got married A Priest is often said to be married to the church and should remain focused on God and his church with undivided love Being a Priest is difficult, it would not be fair on the Priest's family
What are the arguments AGAINST celibacy? (Arguments for priests marrying) St Peter (the first Pope) was married. We know this because Jesus healed his mother-in-law in Matthew, Mark and Luke's gospels. A Priest who is married will be able to understand his parish better and be able to give them better advice There is a shortage of Priests - more people may become priests if they can marry
Arguments FOR the ordination of women Men and women are equal and both made in the image of God so they should be allowed to be Priests. Equality of Gender is shown in Galatians 3 Some women feel they have been called by God to become Priests Times have changed from Jesus' time The Priest is a representative of the whole church, both male and female
Reasons AGAINST the ordination of women Jesus chose only men to be his disciples. There were only men at the Last Supper and this is where Priesthood was founded. (do this in memory of me) Jesus was a man and the Priest is supposed to represent Jesus Women can have other roles in the church - for example they could be a nun
What is a religious order? When people dedicate their whole lives to God by taking vows
What are the three vows taken by those in a religious order? 1. Vow of poverty 2. Vow of chastity 3. Vow of obedience
What is the vow of poverty? Living simply and sharing talents, money and material goods for the support of the community
What is the vow of chastity? Making a vow not to take a wife, husband or partner and not have sexual relations
What is the vow of obedience? Obeying the superior (person in charge) of the religious order
