What is Diffusion ? spreading of particles in a gas from areas of high concentration to areas of lower concentration
When is diffusion faster ? when there is a greater difference in concerntration
What are tissues ? small group of cells
What are tissues ? a group of cells with similar structure & function
What is the function of muscular tissues ? to contract and bring about movement
What is the function of glandular tissues ? to produce substances such as enzymes & hormones
What is the function of epithelial tissues ? to cover some parts of the body
What are organs made up of ? tissues
What is the role of muscular tissues in the stomach ? to churn the contents of food
What is the role of glandular tissues in the stomach? to produce digestive juices ( acid & enzymes)
What is the role of epithelial tissues in the stomach ? to cover the inner & outer surfaces of the stomach
What does the digestive sytem include ? glands & stomach & small intestine liver large intestine
What is the function of glands in the digestive sytem ? pancreas & salivary produce digestive juices
What is the function of the stomach in the digestive system? to Digest food
What is the function of the small intestine in the digestive sytem ? to Digest & absorb soluble food
What is the function of the large intestine in the digestive system ? to Absorb water from undigested food, producing faeces
What are the main plant organs ? Roots Stems Leaves
What is the function of epidermal tissues in a plants ? to cover the plant
What is the function of Mesophyll in plants ? to carry out photosyntheses
What is the function of Xylem and phloem in plants ? to transport substances around the plant
What are leaves adapted for in plants ? to absorbing sunlight for photosynthesis.
What are the main ways that leaves are adapted ? Chlorophyll & Large SA + Stomata Thin & Network of Veins
What is the purpose of Chlorphyll in a plant ? to absorb sunlight
What is the purpose of a Large SA in a plant ? to absorb MORE sunlight
What is the purpose of a stomata in a plant ? To let CO2 diffuse into the leaf
What is the purpose of a thin in the leaves of a plant ? Short distance for carbon dioxide to diffuse into leaf cells
What is the purpose of a network of veins ? To support the leaf & transport water + carbohydrates
What is the purpose of the adapataion of a thick waxy cuticle ? To protect the leaf without blocking light
What is the purpose of the adaptation of a Thin & transparent epidermis in plants ? To allow more light to reach the palisade cells
What is the purpose of the adaptation of a Layer of palisade cells on the top surface ? to absorb light
What is the purpose of many chloroplasts in the palisade cells ? To increase the absorption of light
What is the purpose of the adaptation of a Spongy mesophyll inside the leafs of a plant ? 1. to give air space so CO2 can diffuse through the leaf 2. To increase the SA
What are Organ Systems ? a group of organs that perform a particular function
What is the function of liver in the digestive system ? to produce bile
