Question Answer
30. THE MORE UNCERTAIN PEOPLE ARE, THE MORE THEY DEFEND THEIR IDEAS Cognitive Dissonance is when one has two ideas that conflict with each other and people try to get rid of that disagreement.
There are two ways to get rid of this dissonance: change of belief or deny one of the ideas. When a person is forced to defend an idea that they did not believe in, the person tends to change their own belief in order to fit the new idea.
Another reaction when people are not forced to believe in something that opposes their own belief, the tendency is to deny the new information. And if people are less certain, they will dig in and argue harder on what they stand for.
