Kimberly S. Network Architecture ? English 8 cards

Cards in this deck (8)

  1. 1Ethernet BondingTwo or more physical connections to the same network that are logically grouped or bonded. Data is divided and sent on multiple interfaces, effectively increasing the speed at which the devices can send and receive data. Must have multiple NICs with Ethernet.
  2. 2Spanning treeA protocol on a switch that allows it to maintain multiple paths between switches within a subnet. Without spanning tree, switches would form a loop and pass frames back and forth continuously.
  3. 3Load balancingConfigures a group of servers in a logical group. Incoming requests are distributed to individual members within the group. Improves performance by configuring multiple devices to respond as one.
  4. 4Caching EngineThe process of saving previously-acquired data for quick retrieval at a later time. Data is stored in memory or on a disk within a network device.
  5. 5Quality of Service (QoS)Requires that a set of mechanisms that tries to guarantee timely delivery or minimal delay of important or time-sensitive communications. QoS is important for VoIP, Video, and online gaming.
  6. 6Traffic shaperA traffic shaper is a device that is capable of modifying the flow of data through a network in response to network traffic conditions. Includes a device with QoS guarantees, Bandwidth throttling, and Rate Limiting.
  7. 7Multilayer Switch/content switchOperates at different OSI layers and can use other information in a packet to make forwarding decisions. Performs switching functions faster than a router.
  8. 8Common Address Redundancy Protocol (CARP)An implementation of fault tolerance which allows multiple firewalls and/or routers on the same local network to share a set of IP addresses. If one of the firewalls or routers fails, the shared IP addresses allow the host to continue communicating with the backups.

Information

Description
Provide redundancy of services so that network access can continue in the event of a failure of a device. Improve response and performance of network services or devices.
