Space Exploration
Cards in this deck (20)
- 1How Do Rockets Work? Most rockets use a fuel made from liquid oxygen and hydrogen.
- 2Rocket Stagesdesigned to split apart as they move higher towards space
- 3What are rockets built out ofbuilt with aluminum and titanium
- 4Escape velocitythe speed needed to break free from Earth’s gravity to move outward into space
- 5Sputnikthe world’s first artificial satellite and the first man-made object to be placed into the Earth’s orbit
- 6Explorer IU.S. launched its own satellite
- 7President Dwight D. Eisenhowersigned a public order creating the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), a federal agency dedicated to space exploration.
- 8July 16, 1969 NASA launched Apollo 11goal of landing on the Moon’s surface
- 9Apollo 13crew managed to survive an explosion of the oxygen tank
- 10geostationary satellitean earth-orbiting satellite, placed at an altitude of approximately 35,800km directly over the equator
- 11Blue Originwas founded with a vision of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth
- 12SpaceXthe goal of reducing space transportation costs to enable the colonization of Mars
- 13Who created reusable rocketsSpaceX
- 14the largest modular space station currently in low Earth orbit (248 miles overhead)The International Space Station
- 15How does a telescope work?works by gathering light
- 16the “bending of light” happens when light changes direction or bends when it moves from one material to another. Example- a spoon in a glass of water looks bent at the surface of the water.Refraction
- 17its ability to separate two point sources into separate imagesresolution of a telescope
- 18Uses a lens as its objective to form an image. Uses a single or a combination of curved mirrors that reflect light and form an image.Refracting Telescopes
- 19What telescope is in space orbiting the Earth? The Hubble Space Telescope.
