Flashcards
clinical pathology practical

Cards in this deck (2)
- 1—At the centre of atherosclerotic plaque ( light central area ): chaotically placed spindle-shaped in optically ‘empty’ spaces where arFibrinous cap
e located ‘needle’-like cholesterol crystals. Such is the picture in deparaffinized alcohol fixed tissues.
Sudan ІІІ is used to prove lipids during formalin fixation of tissue and cutting with freezing microtome. Lipid deposits are stained in orange.
Replacing the endothelium and over the fibrous cap (FC) of complicated plaque is the place where mixed thrombus can be formed (MT).
Media is atrophic (М), and the blue line on the border with lipid deposits is dystrophic calcification .
- 2—Nepherosclerosis arteriolosclerotica.
Arteriolohyalinosis in hypertonic disease affects afferent arterioles. Because of their curving way, they fall few times in the plane of section. Their walls are thick, homogenously pink, with no visible smooth muscle nuclei, and the lumens – very narrow .
Later on, the glomeruli also hyalinize (as pink globules) along with the efferential arterioles. Because of the lack of blood in the so called ‘miracle capillary net’ (rete mirabilis) the entire nephron is atrophic.
Single preserved glomeruli become hypertrophic thus compensating the function of the organ .
