Question Answer
How is Ethanol made? From the hydration of Ethene with steam in the presence of a catalyst.
What is another way that Ethanol can be made? By fermentation from sugar using fermentation.
How is the process carried out? by fungus, yeast enzymes in the yeast act on the sugars converting them into ethanol and carbon dioxide.
What temperature does the process need to be carried out at? 18-20 degrees celsius.
What is allowed to escape and what is prevented from entering the reaction vessel? Carbon Dioxide is allowed to escape. Air is prevented from entering the reaction vessel.
How is Ethanol separated from the reaction mixture? Fractional Distillation
Which method is said to use up finite resources and which one is said to be renewable? The Ethene Cracking Crude Oil Method uses up resources. The sugars obtained from the crops is renewable.
Which Method is a continuous process and which is the batch process ? Ethene = Continous Fermentation = Batch
