  2. 2The ILS Critical Area becomes active when the wx goes below ______ feet and _____ NM.The ILS Critical Area becomes active when the wx goes below 800 feet and 2 NM.

  5. 5MTRs above _____ feet AGL are intended to be flown under ___ .MTRs above 1500 feet AGL are intended to be flown under IFR .
  6. 6VFR MTRs (VRs) must be conducted with at least _____ miles visibility and not below a ceiling of less than ____ feet AGL.VFR MTRs (VRs) must be conducted with at least 5 miles visibility and not below a ceiling of less than 3000 feet AGL.
  7. 7IFR en route low altitude charts depict all IR & VR routes that operate above ____ feet.IFR en route low altitude charts depict all IR & VR routes that operate above 1500 feet.
  8. 8Your flight will cross a Military Training Route. Where do you find information about MTRs?FSS
  9. 9Nonparticipating aircraft are prohibited from flying within an MTR T or F?False but extreme vigilance because so fast and low. Stay under positive radar control if possible.
  10. 10In flight, you should contact FSS within ______ NM to obtain current information on MTR route usage. In flight, you should contact FSS within 100 NM to obtain current information on MTR route usage.
  11. 11MTR Route widthVaries extending several miles either side of centerline . Details found in FLIP, which we cannot access but FSS has one.
  12. 12A pilot performing any flight operation in the Washington DC SFRA/FRZ must comply with the requirements inAIM 3-5-8, 14 CFR 93.399, 91.161, 99.7 & NOTAMS 3-5-9 & 3-5-10
  13. 13At slot-controlled airports or airports requiring special traffic handling to accommodate busy events like Oshkosh or Sun n Fun, you may no longer make a reservationVia touch tone telephone. Must now make reservations at www.fly.faa.gov/estmp. See AIM 4-1-21 for details.
  14. 14Cold temperature operations can now adjust theInitial segment
  15. 15According to AC 90-108 Use of suitable Area navigation (RNAV) system on Conventional Routes and Procedures - Change 1, when can’t you substitute GPS for lateral guidance?A ground based NAV aid on the final approach segment or on localizers without reference to raw localizer data. Prior to FAF, push NAV, tune & verify signal on V/LOC.
  16. 16When you bring moist tropical warm air up to a region of cold arcticExpect differential advection with the dramatic cold over warm situation, representing instability & isentropic lift. The 21 Kentucky tornadoes are an example.
  17. 17What is the Bergeron air-mass classification name for the Gulf of Mexico air mass?maritime Tropical (mT)
  18. 18What is the Bergeron air-mass classification name for The Canadiannair-mass?continental Polar (cP)
  19. 19When you see an clockwise swirl of wind vectors and barbs, it is referred to asAn anti-cyclone or area of high pressure and good wx. The only potential for problems is if the winds are light there will be morning fog if any ground moisture.
  20. 20Where the Aviation Wx Forecast reveals converging winds in SE CA desert expectThermal trough or heat low.
  21. 21Altitude for 1000 mb?300 feet
  22. 22Altitude for 925 mb?2500 feet
  23. 23Altitude for 850 mb?5000 ft
  24. 24Altitude for 700 mb?10,000 feet
  25. 25Altitude for 500 mb?18,000 ft
  26. 26Altitude for 300 mb?30,000 ft
  27. 27During carb heat runup check, you should leave it out for how long and no go any drop of how much RPM?Ten seconds, 300 TPM drop or more because it’s indicative of an exhaust leak.
  28. 28When may a vector for visual approach be initiated by ATC & issued?According to FAA Order 7110.65 & ATC Manual 7-4-2, it can only be issued when if the reported ceiling at the airport of intended landing is at least 500 feet above MVA/MIA & the visibility is 3 miles or greater.
  29. 29Suppose that the ceiling is 1800, the MVA is only 1500 and we while being vectored for the ILS approaching the FAF at 1500 you report airport in sight -can the controller clear you for the visual?Yes. They cannot offer visual without 500 feet or more above MVA but anytime you report airport in sight
  30. 30To clear an aircraft for visual approach, what must the pilot report?Per 7110.65 7-3-4 the pilot must report
If towered: the airport or runway in sight
If non-towered: the airport in sight.
  31. 31Okay you have been cleared for the visual, what one of three criteria must be met?1. Number one in sequence or
    2. Report preceding aircraft in sight & comply with instructions to follow it
    3. If following traffic that you haven’t spotted yet, approach must maintain radar separation.
  32. 322021 overall GA Accident rate & fatality rate per 100k?4.28 with fatal rate of .77
  33. 332021 accidents1124, including 202 fatals
  34. 34What accident metric remains steady out of the latest NALL (now McSpadden) report ?Wx related at eight per year
  35. 3533rd NALL (now McSpadden) report revealed that out of 1124 accidents how many were related to non-commercial fixed wing?938 of which 166 fatal
  36. 3633rd NALL (now McSpadden) report revealed that out of 1124 accidents how many were related to Pilot-related?647 of which 103 fatal
  37. 3733rd NALL (now McSpadden) report revealed that out of 1124 which category or phase remains largest number?Landing (290), of which only 9 were fatal.
  38. 3833rd NALL (now McSpadden) report revealed that out of 1124 accidents which cause continues to dominate?Loss of control (LOC) 147 of which most were fatal
  39. 3933rd NALL (now McSpadden) report revealed that out of 1124 accidents how many were take off & climb and how many were LOC fatalities?119/43 Stall LOC
  40. 4033rd NALL (now McSpadden) report revealed that out of 1124 accidents which flight activity had both increased numbers and increased fatalities?Maneuvering 48/31 fatals
  41. 4133rd NALL (now McSpadden) report revealed that out of 1124 accidents how many were stall/LOC & number of fatalities?23/18
  42. 4233rd NALL (now McSpadden) report revealed that out of 1124 accidents how many wx related and how many of those VFR into IMC?30/24 with 12 VFR into IMC, of which all but one were fatal.
  43. 4333rd NALL (now McSpadden) report revealed that out of 1124 accidents how many were mechanical?151 with 12 fatal.
    Power plant 57
    Gear & brakes 34
    Fuel system 23
  44. 44Unofficial but widely used air to air frequency123.45
  45. 45If performing a forward slip on approach, why doesn’t spin likelihood increase?Technically it does but a slip tends to roll the aircraft towards level to begin with because the high wing has a downward deflected aileron with a higher angle of attack than the inside wing. However, if someone performed a forward skid (not really a thing-full aileron & rudder from the same side) & then stalled the inside (low) wing would stall first snapping
