Question Answer
Osmosis Osmosis is the spontaneous net movement of solvent molecules through a semi-permeable membrane into a region of higher solute concentration, in the direction that tends to equalize the solute concentrations on the two sides.
A partially permeable membrane A membrane that only lets small type of molecules to go through such as water molecules. This is sometimes called natural selection.
Water molecules: how do they diffuse? They move from higher concentration of the membrane to the lower concentration of water in the other side of the membrane.
Potato chip experiment: the variables Independent variable/s: concentration Dependent variable/s: mass, length, volume of solution Controlled variable/s: temperature, size of chip, time
