Flashcards
Colour coding
Cards in this deck (16)
- 1Why does colour matter in the movie industry?- if colour isn't right it leeds to complaints e.g. Japanese movie 'spirited away' DVD was red
- 2Which 8 ways can you describe colours?- Darker or lighter (brightness)
- Strong or weak (saturation)
- Hue
-RGB values are normally represented as a value between 0 and 255
-CMYK values are associated with printing
-H, S, B (perceptual descriptors)
-Lab values are examples of colour-order system representations
-ICC- Colour management, digital workflow - 3What is CIELAB ?- A Colour order system based in Austria
- Measures and standardises light sources - 4What does Lab stand for?L*: sets a particular limit (value 0-100)
0= Imaginary black
100= Perfect white
a*: red/green (red= positive, green= negative)
b*: yellow/blue (yellow=positive, blue=negative) - 5What are some other examples of colour order systems?- Natural color systems (NCS)
- Munsell
- RAL
- Pantone - 6What do these systems do?- Make sure there are some reliable and consistent references for the designer, manufacturer and consumer
- 7What are colour wheels?a circular arrangement running from red to green, blue and back to red
- 8Why are colour wheels useful?- Tries to describe relationship between colours
- Red and Orange are adjacent
- Adjacent colours next to each other creates a harmonious design - 9What are the 3 functions of colour?- Aesthetic effects

Trichromats: possess 3 cone classes but one of the cones is normally shifted to a different peak wavelength sensitivity - 16What is needed for functional images to make sure they're accessible?Turn it into grey scale and make sure all the properties and meanings are still present even without colour
