Federal Mandate A requirement the federal government imposes as a condition for receiving federal funds
Concurrent Powers Powers given to both the national and state governments ex. Power to levy taxes
Full Faith and Credit Clause Article 4 Section 1 Requires states to recognize civil judgements rendered by the courts of other states and accept their public records and acts as valid.
Interstate compact Agreement among 2+ states (Congress approval necessary)
National Supremacy Constitutional Doctrine that when conflict occurs between National and State/local government, the federal governments actions overrule.
Block Grants Broad State Grants to states for prescribed activities- welfare, childcare, education...with few strings attached.
Fiscal Federalism Different grant programs which make it difficult to differentiate the functions of individual government levels
Linkage Institutions Means by which individuals can express preferences regarding the development of public policy
