Questions have been asked for as long as the poems were written as to who they are about or written for. In 1609 what happened that added another person to the list of likely candidates? in this year all of Shakespeare sonnets were published together in one volume. the dedicated inside said "to the only begetter of these poems, Mr. W.H." here shakespeare states he wrote all poems the poems for one person but no one knows who W.H. is or if he is an actual person.
What kind of poetry is used by Shakespeare in terms of voice? it is lyric poetry as it focuses on the words of the poet and there meaning similar to a love song.
Why do we refer to the voice of the poem as the speaker and not as the author of said poem? Not all poetry, like songs, are written from the writers own experiences or even by the actual writer. This keeps the ideas separate so were are talking about the views of the poem which might not match up with the views of the writer.
What do we call a person who reads or hears a poem? the auditor, recipient, or addressee
Shakespeare sonnets have how many lines and what type of rhyme scheme? the sonnets all have 14 lines and rhyme as ABABCDCDEFEFGG
fours lines of poetry is called what? 2 rhyming lines together? 4 lines is called a quatrain, 2 lines a couplet, thus Shakespeare sonnets are made up of 3 quatrains and a couplet
What is rhetoric? the art of persuasive language

Iambic pentameter is used in Shakespeare's sonnets. What is it and why is it called that? the meter describes how the words and lines are meant to be read when the poem is read aloud. the sonnets use Iamb meter, one long and one short syllable emphasis. There are always 5 iambs to a line, or ten syllables. 5 can also be said as penta. thus the Iambic pentameter
