Cytokinesis - Cell Division

Description

Cytokinesis is the process of physical cell division. The cytoplasm of a single eukaryotic cell is divided to form two daughter cells. Cytokinesis occurs after Telophase. This flashcard deck covers the concepts of cytokinesis. It would appeal to anyone studying intermediate level biology.

Question Answer
Cytokinesis Occurs immediately after mitosis Cell Division
Cytoplasm during cytokinesis splits into two equal halves
Cytokinesis occurance beginning of anaphase and continues during telophase until the cell has completely divided and interphase has re-started
Cytokinesis in animal cells and plant cells Very different process
cleavage Cytokinesis occurs in animals by this process
Cleavage Furrow The shallow groove that appears around the cell lining on the cell equator
Factors involved in initiating and regulating cytokinesis Myosin II Actin ATP
Myosin II and Actin Make up the contractile ring
Ingress Inward movement
Continued ATP hydrolysis Causes ingress
Abscission Physical division of the two daughter cells
Plant cell wall in cytokinesis Prevents cleavage furrow from forming
Vesicles small membrane enclosed sac gather in the area between the two nuclei in plant cells
Structure formed from vesicles Cell Plate
Middle lamella Region formed between the two daugther plant cells
Timing of cytokinesis Ensure sister chromatids separate during anaphase
