Question Answer
Evaluation Question 2 Related Theories
Uses and Gratification Identify: The target audience for my production is teenagers to young adults. Because of this, I chose to use actors of a similar age to my target audience so that they could relate to one of the characters. Inform: As my production is a horror film, it doesn't really set out to educate the audience. The only way my production may be seen to educate is the fact that the antagonist just walked through the back door, so the film could educate on locking doors and keeping yourself safe. Entertain: I would like to think that the audience to my production would be entertain whilst watching it, if not, I'd say that I have failed in creating a successful production. Social Interaction: My production is one that the audience would talk about with friends. 'Have you seen the trailer for The Outsider, I'd like to see the full film'.
Laura Mulvey's Male Gaze Theory When looking at the different theories, this is one that I did not touch on. This is because all of the characters in my production are male.
Stereotypes As from the flashcard before this one, I have said that all the characters in my production are of the male gender. This is very unconventional for horror films as a lot of horror films follow the 'Final girl theory' in which the last character alive is a girl, this character will generally kill/stop the antagonist.
Stereotypes part 2 I also have an anti-stereotype on the amount of protagonists in the main parts of my production. Stereotypically in horror films there is a group of protagonists who are just trying to have a good time and then have to try and save each other. In my production, I have a couple of protagonist seen having a good time, but then only one protagonist for the main action parts of the trailer.
Ideology I think that the most identifiable factor in my protagonist is the antagonist. This is because he has a lot of screen time in the actual film trailer and he is also the main image on the poster and the most visible character on the magazine.
Props - Character Theory Hero: The hero in my production is Jack, who is the protagonist who is trapped in the house with the antagonist Villain: The villain in my production doesn't have a name, but is the person who breaks into Jack's new house. Dispatcher: The dispatcher in the film could be seen as the antagonist, this is because the 'quest' in the film is for the protagonist to survive and the person who started this quest for survival was the antagonist. Princess: The princess could be seen as the protagonist Jack, as if he lives, the reward is his life.
Todorov - Narrative Equilibrium: Jack has just moved to Leicestershire for university and has just signed the rental deal for a new home. Disruption: Whilst Jack is doing everyday things with his friends, he feels as if he is being watched by something or someone. Recognition of disruption: Jack is filling up a glass with water, when he looks up and see's the antagonist standing outside in the garden. Attempt to repair: Jack attempts to fight the antagonist back. This is seen by Jack going through the kitchen drawers and picking out a knife. New Equilibrium: As the task was to create a film trailer, there isn't really a new equilibrium as I didn't want to give too much of the story away.
Demographics When looking at the demographics table I'd say that the people that are most likely to watch my film are people in the letter brackets D and E. This is because I think these people would have a lot more time on their hands where as people like bankers and lawyer (A bracket) would be working all the time and looking at class, probably wouldn't
