Question Answer
Name an unreactive metal. -Gold -Silver -Copper
Give an example of a very reactive metal. -Potassium -Sodium -Calcium
a) What type of bubbles form when most metals react with acids? a) Hydrogen bubbles are formed when metals react with acids.
What is a displacement reaction? When a more reactive metal will displace a less reactive metal from its compound.
What two types of reactants does a displacement reaction contain? - a metal - the compound of a different metal
What is the evidence of the reaction taking place? -the more reactive metal disappears as it forms a solution -the less reactive metal coats the surface of the more reactive metal -there can sometimes be a change in colour or temperature
What happens when iron and copper sulphate react? (how the metals looked like at the start, how they ended up, and the word equations) -The copper sulphate starts off as a bright blue, then, after the reaction, it ends up as a pale blue. -The iron starts off as silver, then ends up brown copper coloured coating -iron + copper sulphate = copper + iron sulphate
Why does iron replace copper, in the copper sulphate compound, when they react? Iron replaces copper as it is simply more reactive.
(This is the order of reactivity- from most to least reactivity- aluminium, zinc, iron, lead, copper) Write the products:a) aluminium + zinc sulphate b) copper + lead sulphate c) zinc + iron sulphate a) aluminium + zinc sulphate = zinc + aluminium sulphate b) copper + lead sulphate = the same since copper is less reactive than lead c) zinc + iron sulphate = iron + zinc sulphate
