Plasmolysis When a plant cell dehydrates and the cell membrane is pulled away from the cell.
Reagent A substance used in chemical analysis.
Cavity slide A microscope slide with shallow depressions to hold liquids, etc.
Gibberellins Plant hormones that regulate growth and other developmental processes, like germination.
Spirometer Measures respiration
Eppendorf tube Used to carry small amounts of liquid, e.g. enzymes.
Bijou bottle Used in microbial techniques as a culture medium holder.
Squamous Flattened or thin cell (epithelial)
Surfactant A material that reduces the cohesive forces between water molecules.
Pneumonia Too much moisture in the lungs.
Cystic fibrosis Too much mucus in the lungs.
Potometer Measures the rate of transpiration
Qualitative Results Can be described i.e. colours (pH Testing/Chromatography)
Quantitative Results Can be counted i.e. numbers (Change in mass/Quadrats)
Larynx Voicebox
Adaptation Characteristics that make an organisms better suited to their environment
