Question Answer
Give 5 ways a plant will use glucose. 1) Respiration 2) Making cell walls 3) Making Proteins 4) Stored in seeds 5) Stored as starch
Why do plants need to respire? The release of energy helps them convert the rest of the glucose into other useful substances, which they use to build new cells and grow
How do plants use glucose to make a cell wall? Glucose is converted into cellulose for making strong cell walls, especially in a fast growing plant
How do plants use glucose to make proteins? Glucose is combined with nitrates to make amino acids which are then made into proteins
How do plants get nitrate ions? From the soil
What do plants turn glucose into the store in seeds? Lipids (Fats and Oils)
What do seeds also store? Starch
Why do leafs need to store starch? So when the conditions are not right for photosynthesis (usually in winter) they have a back up source of energy
