Question Answer
Quality Control Planned set of activities to monitor quality: Insures the completeness & accuracy of casefinding, abstracting, coding, f/up & reporting activities.
Quality Control of Operations vs. Quality Control of Data Operations: Monitor/evaluate casefinding completeness, timely reporting, policy & proc manuals, & staff training Data: Monitor & evaluate accuracy of information reported
Quality Assurance Monitoring processes and methods to ensure quality
Single-Field / Item Edits Only 1 field at a time to verify & validate field values
Inter-field / Multi-field Compare related data-item codes for correctness; Verify contents of a single field/data-item w/out reference to any other field/item.
Multi-record / Inter-record Check multiple items in different records for internal consistency. Usually all records are for a single patient in a database.
Completeness The measurement of the number of cases missed or of missing data.
Metafile Computer file containing everything needed to edit a data file except data
Edit Set Groups of individual edits with a specific purpose (e.g. NAACCR, NCDB, COC, SEER, NPCR edits)
Edits Individual data check
DCO (Death Certificate Only) DCO percentages (observed-to-expected ratios & incidence-to-mortality ratios) can provide an estimate of the level of completeness of registration as compared to an average for central cancer registries.
Concurrent Abstracting Completing the abstract as information becomes available.
Timeliness The degree to which various stages of the registration process occur on schedule
Lag-Time Report A report that tracks cases by date of dx against the date received in the central registry
RQRS (Rapid Quality Reporting System) Reporting tool; real-time data collection program for reporting shortly after initial contact, usually before the standard abstracting time frame
Acceptance Sampling The inspection & subsequent approval (acceptance) or rejection of a product (e.g. edit checks)
Statistical Process Controls Using statistical measures to continuously monitor the state of a procedure or function. Triggers a review/intervention when the result exceeds established limits; improves data quality in the future - not fix errors.
