1. What did Norman find about Early experiences? Early experiences shape our gender identities. Norman (1988) found that girls& boys are dressed differently, given different toys and encouraged to take part in different activities.
1. What did Piaget say? & What is believed about gender? Piaget said that "play is the work of children" Play is vital to their development. It is believed that gender is a social construction- Babies have NO preference.
1. What did Sharpe find? & What did Murphy find? Sharpe (1976) - found that her sample of working class girl valued love, marriage and relationships over their careers. Murphy (1991) - found that girls and boys interpret tasks differently even when ask to complete the same tasks.
2. What is boys, literacy and socialisation about? Mothers are more likely to do the reading at home, feminising the activity. More time is spent reading to girls than it is to boys. Boys are more encouraged to play sport where as girls have a 'bedroom culture'.
3. What is gender subject image in schools about? Sociologists argue that the gender images of a subject will affect who will choose it.

3. What did sociologist Kelly find? Kelly(1987) has observed the following about science... 1.textbooks tend to rarely portray women 2. Teachers tended to explain scientific terms using examples that males are more likely to identify with 3.Boys tend to dominate practical lessons
3. What did sociologist Colley find? Colley(1998) notes the masculinity surrounding ICT. 1. Working with machines is part of the 'male gender' domain 2.The way it is taught puts off females (less groupwork)
4. What do some males thinks will happen if they chose 'female subjects'? Due to concerns about their masculinity some boys are reluctant to opt for subjects such as childcare or dance. To do so would open them up to ridicule.

4. What did Leonard find? Leonard (2006) found that girls in single sex schools were more likely to take maths and science A-levels and more likely to study male dominate subjects at university.
5. what is career aspiration about? Employment is highly gendered; jobs tend to be sex types as 'men's' or 'women's' Feminist argue that women's jobs are an extension of the housewife role.
5. What did Fuller find? Fuller (2011) found that work experiences placements offered through schools, steer girls towards certain types of jobs (mainly retail or nursing)
