What happened? In january 1935, there was a PLEBISCITE to decide whether Germany should get the Saar back after 15 years of being under the league's control. 90% voted for Germany to get the Saar back (not the League or France).
What is the significance of the Saar returning to Germany? Seen as a victory for Hitler. Made Hitler more popular in Germany. It was legal-the plebiscite was held after 15 years just like the Treaty of Versailles stated.
