Gene | A sequence of DNA that codes for a specific protein |
Allele | Different versions of the same gene |
Dominant | The character which is always expressed (only one copy of allele needed) |
Recessive | Two copies of the allele needed for it to be expressed. |
Dominant disorder | Only one copy needed of faulty allele to have the disorder |
Recessive disorder | Two copies of the faulty allele needed to have the disorder. |
Homozygous | Two alleles for a particular gene the same |
Heterozygous | Two alleles for a particular gene are different |
