Question Answer
What happens when you heat a solid liquid or gases? Leating a solid , liquid or gas will usually just cause its temperature to increase.
What happens when enough heat is added to a solid? However, if you add enough heat, then the substance will change state.
What happens when enough heat is added to liquid? It will change its state to a gas.
What is melting? Melting is the process in which heat causes a solid to change into a liquid.
What is the melting point? A substance is solid below its melting point and molten [a melted liquid ] above it.
What is evaporation? Evaporation is the process in which heat causes a liquid to change into gas.
What is sublimation? Most substance change from solid to gas in two stages first they melt and then they evaporate.
What is boiling? Boiling is a special case of evaporation.
What is the boiling point? The boiling point of a substance is the temperature at which it changes from a liquid into a gas.
What is the boiling point of a substance? The boiling point of a substance is the temperature at which it change from a liquid into a gas.
What is freezing? Freezing occurs when heat is lost and a liquid change into a solid.
How is snow formed? Snow is another formed of ice.
What is the opposite of freezing? Freezing is the opposite process to melting and so freezing and melting occur at exactly the same temperature.
What is condensation? Condensation occurs when a gas loses heat and change into a liquid.
What is steam? Steam is water vapour that has condensed to form a cloud of tiny but visible liquid water droplets in the air.
What does heat do to the particles in a solid? Heat adds energy to the particles in a solid , making them vibrate faster.
Why do clothes dry on a clothes line and why do they dry faster on hot days? That's why clothes on the line eventually dry , even on cold days, on hot days, clothes dry faster because more water particles have enough energy to break free.
What happens to a substance if enough heat is removed from them? A substance might change state if sufficient heat is removed from it.
What is the freezing point? The freezing point is the temperature at which a liquid change into a solid.
