What Mary didn't know
Flowchart content
Imagination is a faculty that those who LACK knowledge need to fall back on
WHAT MARY DIDN'T KNOW
Her know knowing "what it is like" is not a failure of her logically following through on her physical knowledge
NOT a change in her physical states that she has not had the chance to experience before: something about other people
1) Mary knows everything there is to know about brain states and their properties. (Knowledge by description)
2) It is not the case that Mary knows everything there is to know about sensations and their properties (Knowledge by acquaintance)
3) Sensations and their properties are different from brain states and their properties
NOT the Knowledge argument
Doesn't know about properties --> Qualia
Equivocating on the meaning of the word knowledge
NOt how we come to know but what we know
Imagination is not the point: If she can imagine she already know. This is irrelevant because if she knows anything then she shouldn't need to know anything more with imagination
Intentionality of knowledge is not the point??? Having all the knowledge but keeping it separate. NOT A LOCK TO INFER FROM ONE TYPE OF KNOWLEDGE TO ANOTHER
Experience of others and not her own --> When she has the experience she sees what everybody does. Words to pick up wavelengths of light. INFERS that everybody else always had this and she was lacking
Knew about Qualia and dualism. Physicalism + non physical facts of dualism,
Still doesn't know what it is like! Only through experience.
Attack two things that are opposite to each other --> not a good argument
OTHER: Can't even imagine
Not relevant, but it does point out that there is a lack of knowledge
