1. affixes

   • prefix
     • is an affix attached before a root, steam or base
   • suffix
     • is an affix attached after a root or sistem or base
   • infix
     • is an affix inserted inside the root itself

2. roots

   • is the base from of a word with cannot be further analysed with out total loss of identity
   • free
     • are capable of standing independently
     • lexical
     • funtional words
   • bound
     • are incapable of occurring in isolation. they always occur with some other word-bulding element attached to them

3. stems

   • is that part of a word that is in existence before any inflectional affixes

4. bases

   • is any unit whatsoeverv to which affixes of any kind can be added
