  1. Stops food from enter the respiratory system
Oesophagus
1. Opens when food is ingested
Stomach
1. It has three layers of muscle that allow it to perform movements to mix food and gastric acid
2. On its internal Wall there are gastric glands which secrete gastric acid and mucus.
  1. The mucus stops the gastric acid from attacking the stomach´s own walls.
3. Parts

  2. Pylorus
Small intestine
1. Duodenum
  1. The liver secretes bile and the páncreas secretes pancreatic juice into this section
2. Jejunum and ileum
  1. These two sections form the rest of the small intestine, although there is no clear line between them
Large intestine
1. Its glands secrete lubricating mucus to help substances pass through it.

  1. Caecum
  2. Appendix
  3. Ascending colon
  4. Transverse colon
  5. Descending colon
  6. Rectum
Anus
1. is the opening where the gastrointestinal tract ends and exits the body
Made up of
1. Connective and ephiterial tissue.
2. Two layers of muscle tissue that coordinate the movement of food.
3. Cells that produce enzymes and hormones to aid the breakdown of food.
