Digestive tract

1. Mouth

   • The entrance to the digestive tract
   • The salivary glands produce and secrete saliva
   • Parts
     • Premolars and molars
     • Incisors
     • Canines

2. Pharynx

   • Conects the digestive system to the respiratory system
   • Epiglottis
     • Stops food from enter the respiratory system

3. Oesophagus

   • Opens when food is ingested

4. Stomach

   • It has three layers of muscle that allow it to perform movements to mix food and gastric acid
   • On its internal Wall there are gastric glands which secrete gastric acid and mucus.
     • The mucus stops the gastric acid from attacking the stomach´s own walls.
   • Parts
     • Cardias
     • Pylorus

5. Small intestine

   • Duodenum
     • The liver secretes bile and the páncreas secretes pancreatic juice into this section
   • Jejunum and ileum
     • These two sections form the rest of the small intestine, although there is no clear line between them

6. Large intestine

   • Its glands secrete lubricating mucus to help substances pass through it.
   • Parts
     • Caecum
     • Appendix
     • Ascending colon
     • Transverse colon
     • Descending colon
     • Rectum

7. Anus

   • is the opening where the gastrointestinal tract ends and exits the body

8. Made up of

   • Connective and ephiterial tissue.
   • Two layers of muscle tissue that coordinate the movement of food.
   • Cells that produce enzymes and hormones to aid the breakdown of food.
