THE CONNECTORS

1. Connectors are words or groups of words whose main function is to establish some kind of relationship between the sentences that are part of a text.

   • The connectors are divided into
     • 1. Copulative connectors
       • They have the function of joining two events.
         • Example
           • And-y
           • Not only… but… as well - No solo… sino…también
           • Both… and - tanto… como
     • 2. Circuit Breaker Connectors
       • They serve to give one or several alternatives to the idea proposed by the previous sentence.
         • Example
           • Or - o
           • Neither… nor - No… ni
           • Or else- O sino
           • Otherwise: de otro modo
     • 3. Conditional connectors
       • These are used to join two ideas so that one depends on the satisfactory result or not on the other.
         • Example
           • If/whether - si
           • Unless - A menos que
           • In case - En caso de que
     • 4. Connectors Concesivos
       • These serve to express an objection to the main idea of the phrase
         • Example
           • Even if - incluso si
           • Although/though/even though - Aunque
           • Despite/in spite of: - A pesar de
     • 5. Conectors Conclusivos
       • These are used to conclude and / or circumstance to the event proposed in the main sentence
         • EXample
           • So - Entonces
           • Therefore- Por lo tanto
           • Hence - De ahí
           • Thus - Por lo tanto
     • 6. Connectors Continuativos
       • These serve to add an event related to the main
         • Example
           • In addition to- Además de
           • Then - Entonces
           • Not only… but also: - No solo…sino que también/incluso
           • What´s more- Lo que es más
     • 7. Connectors Adversativos
       • These adversary connectors in English may present a specific problem or a different alternative to the initial one.
         • Example
           • However - Sin embargo
           • But -Pero
           • Yet/even so - Aun así, sin embargo
           • Still - Sin embargo
           • In other matters -Por otro lado
     • 8. Connectors Causales
       • These are used to give a reason for a fact.
         • Example
           • Because: Porque
           • By means of: - Por medio de
           • Because of: Debido a
           • For lack of: - Por falta de
     • 9. Comparative connectors
       • These connectors serve to express a degree of equality or difference between two sentences.
         • Example
           • As: Como
           • Not as/so…as: No tan… Como
           • Than: Que
     • 10. Functional Connectors
       • These serve to express the cause or purpose of a sentence
         • Example
           • So that - Para que
           • So- Entonces
           • So as not to: Para no
