COMMON MISTAKES

  1. INSUFFICIENT DETAILS

    • Describe events (what was it, when, where). These are the pieces of evidence to sustain your argument.
  2. LACK OF FOCUS

    • Identify the command term. What is the essay question demanding you to do?
      • Compare & contrast
        • Find similarities and develop then in one paragraph. Use both cases to support your argument.
      • Evaluate
        • What are the positive and negative outcomes of something? Was the objective fulfilled?
      • To what extent question
        • How far is the statement's question right? Are there any possible ways to counterargue the statement of the question?
  3. INSUFFICIENT ANALYSIS

    • Look at the facts you have: what can be argued?
      • What do the facts explain? How do they support your explanation?
        • For example: what do the Export-Import Bank and the Reciprocal Trade Agreements reveal about Inter-American relations? Analysis: the first policy helped to boost trade between the U.S and L.A countries since the latter were given loans to purchase American goods. This was also benefital for U.S economy since they saw their income grow. So on with the Reciprocal Trade Agreements...
