Resins Dental
Generalities
- Material used in the dental office
- They contain inorganic filler particles immersed in an organic polymer matrix.
- advantage
- aesthetics
- tooth preservation
- disadvantages
- contraction
History
- First half of the 20th century material silicates are introduced
- In 1935, polymethyl methacrylate was introduced for the resin of dental prostheses.
- In 1949, the benzoyl peroxide-tertiary amine redox initiator-accelerator system was developed for the PMMA resin curing system.
- In 1951, epoxy resin was introduced as a direct filling material as a mineral filler, which had a color similar to that of teeth
- In 1965 Bowen discovered bisphenol-A Glycidyl Methacrylate (Bis-GMA)
- In 1969, the commercial Adaptic composite composed of Bis-GMA and a silenced quartz filler was introduced to the market as restorative materials.
Adhesive systems
- Universal adhesive
- These are used with the etch and rinse technique or the self-etching technique
- Self-etch adhesive
- They are able to demineralize the smear layer and dentin underlying while allowing resin monomers to penetrate the demineralized zone, creating a hybrid layer
- Etch and rinse adhesive
- require tissue conditioning with 37% orthophosphoric acid
- This process removes the smear layer
- Universal adhesive
Curing System
- photopolymerization
- El iniciador característico es el sistema canforquinona (CQ) / amina
- chemical curing
- Its initiator is benzoyl peroxide
- Its accelerator or co-initiator is a tertiary amine
- photopolymerization
