Gender Equality (SDG 5)
Structural and Cultural Barriers
- Persistent gender bias and patriarchal norms hold back women from leadership and decision-making. Intersectional discrimination also affects non-binary and LGTBIQ+ people, revealing the limits of a binary model of equality. To achieve inclusive progress, institutions must work towards eliminating stereotypes and empowering all gender identities equally.
Policy Acceleration and Global Action
- Governments and global organizations need to carry out integrated reforms -investing in education, care services, and social protection. The EU's policy frameworks show that political will and partnerships can lead to measurable results. Strong collaboration can bring out sustainable growth while closing the gender gap.
Measuring Global Progress
- Despite some legal reforms, progress remains uneven. Most indicators still show a moderate or far distance to target. Data systems must be strengthened to track down gender disparities and ensure accountability. When countries set up transparent monitoring mechanisms, they bring about more effective gender-responsive policies.
