3. plot

   • Danforth says if the confession is a lie, then it is no confession at all. Proctor brake the confession into pieces. Danforth orders Herrick to take Proctor to the gallows.
   • They bring in Rebecca in hopes that Proctor's confession will sway her. Proctor shouts That he can not bear to sign his Name to lies
   • Proctor asks what Elizabeth would think if he confessed. Proctor decides to confess, though he knows he shouldn't.
   • Danforth refuses to postpone the executions. Danforth's position doesn't satisfy Parris.
   • Danforth and Hathorne visit a Salem jail to see Parris. and Parris reveals that Abigail robbed him of thirty-one pounds and then ran off with Mercy Lewis.

     • . He likes to think of himself as fair-minded, so it disturbs and angers him to discover that people fear the court. He believes that no innocent person should fear the court, and that he and Judge Hathorne are guided by God, so nobody will be punished unjustly.
   • jhon proctor
     • Honest, upright, and fair Proctor is a good man, but with a fatal secret. His lust for Abigail Williams led to their affair.
   • rebecca
     • Rebecca is a religious woman in her seventies. When she is accused of witchcraft, it makes the Reverend Hale pause and reconsider whether the proceedings are just and fair
