Standard: Physical Science S2P1. Students will investigate the properties of matter and changes that occur in objects. a.
Identify the three common states of matter as solid, liquid, or gas. b. Investigate changes in objects by tearing,
dissolving, melting, squeezing, etc
Objective: 2nd Grade students will create a digital story to explain differences between Gases, Solids, and Liquids with 90% accuracy
Bloom's Levels: Understanding and Creating
Lesson Plan/Activity: Building on prior learning (a video about Matter and class discussion), students will create a Digital Story
that identifies the differences between Gases, Liquids, and Solids. Each group will have 4 members and
will share one computer. This activity will take place during our science block (45 mins) for 1 week.
Monday-get in groups, start planning, Tuesday- decide on storytelling tool collect material,
Wednesday-edit material and record voiceovers/typography, Thursday-finish project, Friday- share. They
are expected to take turns creating, editing, and narrating/writing their digital story. Each group will turn in
a storyboard with their completed story. We will share stories with the class.
Standard: S2P2. Students will identify sources of energy and how the energy is used. a. Identify sources of light
energy, heat energy, and energy of motion. b. Describe how light, heat, and motion energy are used.
Objective: Students will create a chart and draw examples for each type of energy with 85% accuracy
Standard: S2P3. Students will demonstrate changes in speed and direction using pushes and pulls. a. Demonstrate
how pushing and pulling an object affects the motion of the object. b. Demonstrate the effects of
changes of speed on an object.
Objective: 2nd grade students will use toy cars and various surfaces to determine effects of speed, time distances, then create a list of the results with 90%
accuracy.
