Network Security
Social Engineering
- Social engineering, in the context of information security, refers to psychological manipulation of people into performing actions or divulging confidential information
Firewall
- A network security system. Either hardware or software base that controls incoming and outgoing network traffic based on a set of rules.
- Members of the public, corporate organisations, schools, governments etc.
- Operating systems; Windows, Mac OS etc. Network devices, routers, switches, servers
MAC address
- Media Access Control, it is an address given to all network devices, it is hardcoded into the device. 00:0a:95:9d:68:16
- Media Access Control address filtering is the process of setting up parameters to allow only certain MAC addresses onto a network or router.
- Only the devices you allow through the filtering can access your home network. If someone was spying on your network they could potentially listen for a MAC address and attempt to copy it into their own device.
Blagging
- Inventing a scenario to convince someone that you are a person you are not.
- An email from someone at Apple that says your iTunes account is locked and they need your details to unlock it.
- To get information that people shouldn’t have access to or to get into restricted locations
