Network Security

  1. Network Prevention Methods

    • Anti-malware software- software program designed to prevent, detect and remove malicious software. This stops malware attacks
    • Firewalls-protects a network or system from unathorized access from attackers. This stops Brute force attacks
    • User access levels- different levels of access given to different people to make sure the network remains secure. This stops social engineering and ransomeware attacks
    • Password Strength Checker-checks the strength of your password and if its easily guessable. This stops brute force attacks
    • Data Encryption-data encryption translates data into a code so that only people with a password or decryption key can read it. This prevents packet dropping and malware attacks
    • Storage Device Virus Scanning-scans your storage device and files for viruses and malware. This stops malware attacks
    • Penetration Testing- also called pen test is the practice of testing a computer system, network or web application to find vulnerabilities that an attacker could exploit. This stops malware attacks
    • Network Forensics-is the recording and analysis of network events in order to discover the source of the attacks. This stops data interception and brute force attacks
    • Network Security Policies- a formal document that outlines the principles to enforce security on a computer network. This stops all attacks that include dowlnoading and adding things to your files
  2. Network Vulnerabilities and Risks

    • Malware- software which is designed to disrupt, damage or gain access to a computer system to steal infomation
    • Phishing- phishing is where an attacker sends an email to someone that distributes links or attachments that can perform a variety of functions including the extraction of logins and other infomation
    • Ransomware- software designed to block access to a computer system until a sum of money is paid
    • Trojan horse- a malicious computer program which misleads users of its true intent
    • Brute force attack- is a trail and error method used to obtain information such as pin numbers. software is used to generate a large number of consecutive guesses to try.
    • Denial of Service- a cyber attack where the attacker makes a machine or network resource unavailable
    • Social Engineering-manipulating people to give out there infomation
    • Man in the Middle is where an attacker secretly relays and alters the communication between two parties who believe they are in direct communication
    • Data Interception- the auauthorized interception or taking of infomation.
    • Eavesdropping/packet dropping- unauthorised interception of a private conversation
    • Message Tampering-illegally making changes to something you should not.
    • SQL Injection- a computer attack in which code is embedded in a poorly designed application. the data then produces database query results or actions that should never have been executed.
