The Circulatory System
- The circulatory system is made up of
Blood, Blood Vessels and the Heart
- The Blood vessels are the
veins, arteries and
capillaries.
- Capillaries are one cell thick and allow diffusion
to happen between oxygen and carbon dioxide
at the lungs.
- Arteries carry oxygenated blood away from the heart
to the body. They have thick walls in order to carry
high volumes of blood to vital organs and muscles.
- Veins carry deoxygenated blood from the body to the heart veins
are thin and have backflow valves to stop blood going backwards
and potentially ending in a clot.
- Capillaries are one cell thick and allow diffusion
to happen between oxygen and carbon dioxide
at the lungs.
- Blood is made up of Red
Blood Cells, White Blood
Cells, Platelets and
Plasma.
- Red Blood Cells carry oxygen and
are dome shaped.
- White Blood Cells fight infections
and kill pathogens.
- Platelets help blood clot and
stop infections entering in to
open wounds
- Plasma is a fluid that helps the blood
flow.
- Red Blood Cells carry oxygen and
are dome shaped.
