'Hotel de Ville', a copy of a town
hall in Normandy. Made to look old
fashioned and from Europe.
The fact it is copy perhaps
enhances the idea of
performance and the aspiration for perfection.
Buchanans' house
Is on East Egg,
the side of 'old
money' where the
most rich live.
'Georgian colonial mansion' Beautiful,
expensive house, with 'french windows'
almost advertises the wealth of the
Buchanans.
Described as being airy, spacious and
tastefully decorated. There is the
repetition of the colour white, reflecting
the purity and elegance of the property.
Contrast of Buchanans' house and
Toms flat: spacious-claustrophoic
'fragilely bound' could
reflect the fragility of the
performances that all the
characters put on and
the fragile relationships
and foundations they
build their lives on.
Nicks House
Cheap in comparison to the
houses that surround him. Placed in
a perfect position to narrate.
Cheap $80 house could
highlight the contrasting
wealths.
VOICE
Daisy
Has a musical quality, which entices
anyone who is compelled to listen. 'It
was the kind of voice that the ear
follows up and down' Even Nick, is
enchanted by her charms.
Tom
'Gruff, husky tenor'
His voice portrays his
dominance and perhaps his
future aggression as 'gruff'
might suggest.
Aggression is confirmed in
chapter 2, Tom breaks
Myrtles nose.
