Before there is any verbal communication in the first act, there is thunder and lightning
- Thunder and lightning have connotations darkness and violence. This foreshadows the future events of the play

The witches decide to meet "Upon the heath" which is a dark and dismal place which is barren and empty of life
- This links to the supernatural because witches are associated with death and illness. There has been and "illness" on the heath which has made it barren and dismal.
Fair is foul and foul is fair
- The Withces imply that things arent what they seem and that the theme and plot will unfold and develop throughout the play.
- This is later repeated by Macbeth after the battle in act 1 scene 3

"When the battles lost and won"
- This suggests that the witches know of battles that will happen and be either won or lost
- This links to the supernatural because witches are believed to have prophetic powers meaning that they can influence a characters actions throughout the play.
- This suggests that the witches know of battles that will happen and be either won or lost
I come Graymalkin!
- Paddock calls.
- Anon!
- This proves the supernatural in the witches because witches were believed to have familiars (pets from the Devil) and the witches in play have a familiar each.
