PARSONS stated that there are 2 types of family structure
1. NUCLEAR

    1. PARSON argued that families in the MODERN INDUSTRIAL SOCIETY has lost mnay of its functions as it has become a UNIT OF CONSUMPTION
      1. This means that in MODERN SOCIETY the NUCLEAR family has 2 essential functions
        PRIMARY SOCILIASATION
        To equip children with basic skills and socity's values
        THE STABILISATION OF ADULT PERSONALITIES
        FAMILY is the place where adults can relax and relieve stress and be frefreshed to go work and become succesful
        Tis is functional for the EFFIENCY of the ECONOMY
  2. PARSON stated that the NUCLEAR family was the DOMINANT family type
2. EXTENDED
  1. EXTENDED family is the PRE-INDUSTRIAL SOCIETY
PARSON argued that INDUSTRIAL society has 2 essential needs which requirea NUCLEAR FAMILY to work
1. GEOGRAPHICAL MOBILE WORKFORCE
  1. PARSON stated that it was easier for the nuclear family to move than then the extended family
  2. people move to where there are jobs
2. SOCIALLY MOBILE WORKFORCE
criticism- young and willmot said that nuclear family is no longer dominant as parson said it was.
