Kitchen Fire Safety

  1. Do NOT use water to put out a grease fire. It will only make it worse.

  2. Do not try to move the fire. That will only make it grow.

  3. If there is a grease fire, slide a lid or cookie sheet over the pan to put it out.

  4. Act quick! There is probably only about 30 seconds until the fire gets worse.

  5. If you have an extinguisher, make sure it's not water based and aim it at the base of the fire.

  6. Don't take the lid off the pan until it's cooled. If you do, the fire will restart.

  7. Turn off the heat as soon as possible to prevent anything from getting worse.

  8. Always keep an eye on your food and stay near the stove at all times to prevent fires

  9. Purchase a stovetop fire stop to quickly extinguish any possible fires

  10. If the fire spreads or gets worse, call the fire department instead of trying to put it out yourself
