Variables
- Data placeholders that can be of type of type reference (reference to an object) or primitive (holds a primitive)
- Has a name or identifier
- Sun's Naming Convention ex: firstTimeLogin
Separators
- Parentheses, braces, brackets, angle brackets, semicolon, colon, comma, period
- As given by the name, separators work to separate or group lines of code including declarations, initializations, lists, etc.
Primitives
- Data type
- byte, short, int, long, float, double, char, boolean
- Which primitive type is used may depend on the space/memory space needed
- Char deals with unicode and boolean is true/false while the rest deal with numbers
Constants
- Declared by using the keyword final
- ex: final int ROW_COUNT = 50
Literals
- Literals of primitive types have four subtypes: integer, floating-point, character and boolean
- Integer literals are used to assign values to variables of types byte, short, int and long
- Floating-point literals are used for two types of floating points: float and double
- A boolean literal has two values: true and false
- Character literals are unicode characters or escape sequences enclosed in single quotes
