Task 2- Mind map and explanatory video

  1. Improving writing literacies through facebook gaming in the composition classroom

    • Many researchers have found that through the majority of the games our students play, they are practicing complex thinking, problem solving, strategizing, investigating, and understanding rules and codes of simulated worlds
    • Facebook is one of the platforms many students access practically on a daily basis, if not multiple times throughout the day. As of December 2013, Facebook had 757 million daily active users
      • For the uses the of the classroom setting, students do not need to “friend” each other or the instructor. While students may be resistant to integrate the social space of Facebook in the writing class, without having to connect their accounts with others, they can choose not to share any personal information with their peers or instructors keeping their discourse community on Facebook as their own space to express themselves.
  2. Mobile learning to improve writing in ESL teaching

    • The gradual inclusion of new information and communication technologies in educational contexts has not been a new or a unique element. Hanson-Smith (2000) states that discussion on the use of technology (the use of cassettes, tape recorders, etc.) in classrooms had already started in the 1960s; at that time technology was mentioned as an instrument to facilitate the teaching of the second language. Currently, technology in classroom has included the implementation of mobile devices to support the teaching and learning processes
    • Mobile Learning Teaching languages especially foreign languages assisted by computers or CALL (Computer-Assisted Language Learning) and by mobile device or MALL (Mobile-Assisted Language Learning) is an example of how new communication technologies can be used to serve the learning objectives. Within this approach, mobile learning refers to the acquisition of knowledge through mobile devices. This means that learning takes place any- where and at any time.
    • Other characteristics of texts were analyzed in this study, such as coherence. According to Halliday and Hassan (1976), coherence is defined as the meaning relations existing within a text. Likewise, Nunan (1999) describes it as Noriega, Mobile Learning to Improve Writing 185 words or phrases, which allow the writer to establish links that helps to put sen- tences together.
  3. A mobile- based learning tool to improve writing skils of EFL learnes

    • learners writing samples are used for identifying errors which are then classified based on grammar categories or features. the analysis results are used to write a st of error-detecting rules implemented
    • The errors are divided into systematic and non - systematic errors. the systematic errors can easily be described using a set of rules whereas non- systematic ones are usually categorized as idiosyncratic and cannot be generalized.
